Malcolm's life revolves around Monkland Boulevard in Montreal, where he works at a video store and frequents the Café Olé. He's surrounded by a cast of colorful characters, including his neighbor Mrs. Baron, his friend Sal, and his sad and quiet neighbor Sharon. His brother and sister-in-law try to set him up with the perfect woman, but he's had a string of unsuccessful dates. That is until he meets Alicia, a beautiful young Chilean woman who works at a bookstore across town.
