Stephanie Morgenstern is a multi-talented individual with a career spanning multiple disciplines. She began as an actor and later branched out into filmmaking, screenwriting, directing, and showrunning.
Morgenstern's television work includes being the Executive Producer on Season 2 of NBC/CTV's medical drama 'Transplant', developing the season and character arcs with the writing room and writing the Season 2 Premiere episode with Mark Ellis. She has also worked as a freelance television director on hour-long dramas such as 'Nurses', 'Burden of Truth', 'Killjoys', and 'Hudson & Rex'.
Morgenstern was the Co-Creator, Writer, Executive Producer, and Showrunner of CBC's WWII espionage drama 'X Company', alongside Mark Ellis. The show received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Television Drama in its premiere year and wrapped its third and final season in Budapest. She also directed the two-part series finale.
Prior to 'X Company', Morgenstern was the Co-Creator, Writer, and Executive Producer of 'Flashpoint' (CBS/CTV/Ion),alongside Mark Ellis. They were designated Showrunners of the Year by the Writers' Guild of Canada and co-wrote twenty of the show's 75 episodes, earning both a Gemini and WGC Award for Best Writing in a Television Drama.
Morgenstern's filmmaking work includes directing the critically acclaimed short WW2 drama 'Remembrance', which she co-wrote and co-starred in with Mark Ellis. The film earned a Genie Award nomination for Best Short Live Action Film, won Best Canadian Short at the Worldwide Short Film Festival, and the Jutra Award for Best Short.
Morgenstern's first short was the bilingual Curtains/Rideau, co-directed with her brother Mark Morgenstern. The film was a Genie nominee for Best Short and earned her the award for Best Script at Yorkton.
As an actor, Morgenstern has worked in film, television, and theatre across Canada. She is fluent in English and French and has provided the original English dub voice for Sailor Venus in the cult anime series 'Sailor Moon'.
Morgenstern holds a BA in English from McGill University, studied drama at the Banff Centre School of Fine Arts, and earned her MA at York University's Graduate Programme in Social and Political Thought. She is also an alumna of the Women in the Director's Chair Master Class and a graduate of the Berlinale Talent Campus.
