The movie tells the story of Rouget de Lisle, a captain of the King's Guards and a music teacher, who falls in love with Marie Marnay, the daughter of an innkeeper, despite their differing political views. As their relationship blossoms, de Lisle writes the iconic song "La Marseillaise", which becomes a rallying cry for the revolution led by Marie.
