Patricia Carroll travels to London to marry Alan Glentower, but instead visits Mrs. Trefoile, her former fiancé Stephen's mother, in the countryside. Mrs. Trefoile, a religious fanatic, insists Patricia stay overnight and attend mass the next morning. However, Patricia's revelation that she was not going to marry Stephen sparks Mrs. Trefoile's descent into madness, leading her to abduct Patricia to purify her and make her suitable for Stephen.
