Floundering background

Floundering

A directionless thirty-something man struggles to find his place in post-riot Los Angeles, seeking purpose and meaning among the vibrant streets of Venice Beach.

Life in post-riot Los Angeles is dissected through the eyes of John Boyz, a thirty-something unemployed man on Venice Beach struggling to find purpose. Haunted by insomnia and a sense of impending doom, John is an avid observer, using his binoculars to make sense of the alienation and disaffection around him. He chronicles his mundane daily life, including watching homemade videos of the LA riots, as he desperately tries to distinguish one meaningless day from the next.
