Alex's life takes a drastic turn when he discovers he's not an American citizen, despite being brought to the US by his parents as an infant. Meanwhile, Flora, born in Missouri, runs away from home and finds herself arrested for shoplifting. The two are deported together to Mexico, where they're thrust into a violent world of warring criminal factions in Tijuana and other border towns.
