Brenda Martin, a 37-year-old woman from a troubled neighborhood, enters Dempsy Medical Center with minor injuries and emotional distress. She recounts being carjacked by an unknown black man while taking a shortcut between her work at a children's center and her home. Her 4-year-old son, Cody, was asleep in the back seat and is now in the carjacker's hands. Her brother, a police detective, becomes involved in the investigation, despite being outside his jurisdiction, and clashes with Dempsy Police Detective Lorenzo Council.
