In 1463, Paris is under siege by the Duke of Burgundy, who exploits the city's poverty while the king remains idle. Amidst the turmoil, King Louis goes incognito to uncover a traitor, crossing paths with Francois Villon, a poet, philosopher, and cunning rogue. Villon's actions inadvertently lead to the king's traitor being killed, and he is subsequently tasked with replacing him as Grand Constable of France, with a significant condition attached.
