A psychologist starts a new job at a penal institution, despite her resolve to never return to psychiatry. She meets a man with an anti-social, narcissistic personality disorder, who is about to go on his first unaccompanied probation after five years of treatment. Despite her coworkers' enthusiasm about his progress, the psychologist remains skeptical and tries to push back against his probation. The man, determined to convince her of his good intentions, slowly becomes violent and manipulative, trapping the psychologist in a power struggle.
