Thirty-year-old Vince Papale faces a series of setbacks in the summer of 1976, including the loss of his substitute teaching job due to budget cuts. His wife's disappointment and eventual request for divorce further devastate him. Despite this, Vince finds solace in his part-time bartending job and playing football with friends.
