Edinburgh, late 19th century. Little Jack is born with a frozen heart, which is replaced by a cuckoo-clock by midwife Madeleine. The clock will keep him alive as long as he follows the rules, avoiding love. However, his encounter with a fiery-eyed girl and his decision to chase her will put his makeshift heart to the test.
