Mexican Hayride background

Mexican Hayride

Cunning thieves escape to Mexico to avoid prosecution, only to find their adventures take a surprising twist when they reconnect with a former accomplice who has traded in her life of crime for the exhilaration of bullfighting.

In this drama, a man named Joe Bascom is mistakenly pursued by authorities for his involvement in an oil stock swindle in Iowa. He flees to Mexico, where he believes the real con artist, Harry Lambert, has gone. Joe finds Harry, who has helped a mutual acquaintance, Mary, become a famous toreador known as Montana. Harry, Mary, and another woman, Dagmar, are involved in a new scheme to launch a fake silver mine in Mexico, using Montana's celebrity status to promote it. When Mary sees Joe in the crowd, she tosses her hat at him in anger, making him an unexpected celebrity. Joe changes his name to Humphrey Fish and becomes embroiled in the scheme, but his honesty ultimately leads him to keep the money from the sales and return it to the investors.
