Longfellow Deeds, a small-town resident, lives a humble life, playing the tuba in the town band. After inheriting a fortune, Deeds leaves his simple life behind and moves to the city, where he's targeted by opportunists. Outsmarting them all, Deeds meets Babe Bennett, a cunning reporter who poses as a damsel in distress to get close to him.
