In 1933, Kyoto's academic freedom is threatened, and Professor Yagihara's daughter Yukie is courted by idealistic student Ruykichi Noge and tolerant Itokawa. When the movement is crushed by fascists, Professor Yagihara and Faculty of Law members resign, and Noge is arrested.
