A teacher, Jean Harper, takes a bus tour through Mexico, but misses her bus and meets Jimmy Donovan, a 30-year-old divorce lawyer, who is on a biking trip to Acapulco to avoid trouble. They embark on a journey across Mexico, traveling by bus, bicycle, ox-cart, and on foot, and are mistakenly accused of kidnapping each other. Along the way, they befriend a quirky Mexican orphan boy who joins them.
