A newly commissioned submarine, damaged in the early days of World War II, sets sail for a dockyard under the command of a determined captain. Along the way, they encounter a group of stranded Army nurses and are forced to take them aboard. As they slowly make their way to their destination, they face a series of challenges, including a shortage of paint that requires them to mix white and red to achieve the necessary primer coat. When an air attack forces them to flee the dock, they're left with a pink submarine and the unexpected presence of five women in the cramped quarters.
