Harold, a country boy, leaves Great Bend to pursue success in the city, promising to marry his girlfriend Mildred once he achieves his goals. He gets a job as a salesman at De Vore Department Store, but struggles with temptation and deception. After being seen by an old friend, a policeman, Harold becomes desperate and tries to promote De Vore by having a friend climb the Bolton Building. However, things spiral out of control when the angry policeman tries to identify the mystery man.
