In post-WWI Toronto, Daniel Small's distillery and son Ambrose's theater chain are major businesses. However, Ambrose's disappearance after selling the theaters sparks suspicion and rumors. His wife Theresa, a devout Catholic, hires detective Cole Willis to find him, while the public speculates about foul play and potential murder motives.
