In 1911 Wales, a young Jewish fabric seller struggles to make a living while concealing his nationality. His life takes a turn when he falls in love with a woman from a family with a strong-willed father and a brother who despises Jews. As their relationship deepens, she becomes pregnant, only to discover her lover's true identity. The couple's happiness is short-lived, as anti-Semitic riots erupt, forcing them to flee and ultimately become separated.
