Stand by for Action background

Stand by for Action

In the midst of World War II, two Navy officers command a World War I-era destroyer, navigating perilous Japanese-controlled waters in the South Pacific to safely transport convoys.

Navy Lieutenant Gregg Masterman, a sailing enthusiast, rapidly rises through the ranks to become Junior Aide to Rear Admiral Stephen Thomas. In contrast, Lieutenant Commander Martin J. Roberts, a World War I veteran, gradually works his way up and is recalled to command the destroyer "Warren", an over-age ship recommissioned for the war.
