In the 1890s, Sgt. Major John Philip Sousa leaves the Marines to form his own band, joined by Private Willie Little and his girlfriend Lily, a showgirl. Sousa's marches bring him fame, but his "no wives" rule threatens the romance of Willie and Lily, and the Spanish-American War disrupts their lives.
