An American journalist travels to Hong Kong to help a defecting Russian diplomat escape, in exchange for a diary revealing the truth about China. When the diplomat is killed and the diary goes missing, the reporter embarks on a perilous journey to recover it, leading him from Hong Kong to Australia and culminating in a thrilling showdown with the diplomat's daughter, "That Lady from Peking".
