Eddie, an American drifter, is running away from himself, struggling to find purpose and acceptance. He's fired from various jobs due to his self-loathing, which makes others dislike him. His latest job ends with him being discovered by Gina, who recruits him as the straight man and singer for her ventriloquist act in a traveling circus. However, he soon realizes Gina has ulterior motives, expecting him to be her partner both on stage and in her bedroom.
