Ystävät, toverit background

Ystävät, toverit

In Northern Finland's 1930s, a nickel tycoon's lavish birthday party brings together the region's elite, marking a milestone in his prosperous career, surrounded by his thriving nickel factory.

Arno Jurmala, a ruthless nickel tycoon, has a seemingly perfect life in 1930s Northern Finland, complete with a beautiful wife and a massive factory. However, behind his polished facade, he has no qualms about eliminating competitors and exploiting his employees to increase his wealth. As World War II breaks out, Jurmala trades with both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, switching allegiances depending on who's winning. His personal life is also marred by his inability to have children, which has led his wife to become a drug addict.
