A Town Like Alice background

A Town Like Alice

A British heiress returns to Malaya to construct a water well for the community that assisted her during World War II, as she reflects on the courageous Australian soldier who sacrificed his life to save her and her fellow prisoners of war.

During World War II, the Japanese army swiftly captures British territories, forcing men into labor camps. The fate of British women and children remains uncertain. A group of women and children embark on a perilous journey, searching for a Women's Camp. Along the way, they receive aid from an Australian soldier who risks his own life to smuggle food from his labor camp. After the war, one of the women travels to Australia to reconnect with the soldier and pay tribute to the town that welcomed her and her fellow survivors.
