An Act of Defiance

A lawyer navigates the treacherous landscape of apartheid-era South Africa, juggling his clandestine support for the anti-apartheid movement with his prominent defense of Nelson Mandela and other freedom fighters.

In 1963, South Africa is plagued by apartheid, and ten men are arrested on a farm in Rivonia for plotting sabotage and violence against the oppressive government. As their lead counsel, lawyer Bram Fisher fights to defend them, only to discover that Nelson Mandela is also on trial.
