In 1942, a young man named Friedrich is appointed to a prestigious National Political Academy, a high school that trains future Nazi leaders. Despite his father's disapproval, Friedrich sees this as his ticket out of a life of manual labor and into a university education and a good salary. However, his innocence is soon shattered as he faces hazing, cruelty, and death at the academy.
