Booky Makes Her Mark background

Booky Makes Her Mark

Set in 1930s Canada, the story follows a young girl named Booky as she faces the struggles of poor health and her first romantic feelings, all while discovering her love for writing and embracing her transition into adulthood.

A loving working-class family, the Thomsons, face hard times in Depression-era Toronto, with 15-year-old Booky taking her family's struggles in stride. She finds joy in her family, her Deanna Durbin fan club, and her crush on Lorne, but dislikes the free lunch program food and a serious medical issue that sends her to her aunt's farm. Booky aspires to be a writer, encouraged by her teacher and meeting Lucy Maud Montgomery, who offers advice. However, her mother teaches her that passion and self-belief are more important, and Booky learns the value of humility.
