Mike Lobel is a multifaceted Canadian artist, boasting a diverse repertoire of skills that span the realms of music, acting, directing, and editing. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to parents of Polish and Ashkenazi Jewish descent, he grew up alongside his two siblings in a culturally rich and diverse environment.
From a young age, Lobel demonstrated a profound interest in music, commencing his drumming studies at the tender age of nine. As he matured, he attended the prestigious Etobicoke School of the Arts, where he majored in both music and drama. During this formative period, he co-founded musical ensembles, including "Civilian" and "Boys Who Say No," and began to explore the world of acting.
Lobel's acting career took off with his debut role in the 2003 film adaptation of Oliver Twist, entitled Twist, directed by Jacob Tierney and starring Nick Stahl. However, his most notable and enduring role to date is that of "Jay Hogart," a manipulative school bully on MTV's Degrassi: The Next Generation, which premiered in 2001.
In 2009, Lobel starred in the film Suck, playing the role of "Sam," the drummer of a touring rock and roll band besieged by vampires, alongside rock and roll legends Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins, and Iggy Pop. He has also appeared on various television shows, including Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, The Best Years, and the HBO Max series Detention Adventure, released in 2019. His film credits include Selling Innocence, Booky Makes Her Mark, and Degrassi Goes Hollywood.
In addition to his acting pursuits, Lobel co-founded the synth-pop band Future Peers in 2014 and has toured extensively across Canada, America, and Europe with the group. He also began working as a picture editor in 2016, which led to his involvement in the production of HBO Max's Detention Adventure as both an editor and director. Furthermore, Lobel has edited and directed several music videos and documentaries.
