In 1940s Monterey, California, Cannery Row is home to the downtrodden, yet they wouldn't trade it for anything. Doc, a marine biologist, is the most upstanding citizen, but he's searching for his purpose after making amends for past mistakes. He hopes his octopus research will bring meaning, but it's proving challenging. Suzy DeSoto, a drifter, arrives and gets a job at the local brothel, despite her feisty nature. Doc and Suzy are drawn to each other, but their clashing personalities make it difficult. The community tries to bring them together, but they must first find their own paths before committing to each other or anyone else.
