In 1959, Truman Capote delves into a brutal Kansas family murder, forming a profound bond with Perry Smith, one of the accused, as he writes their tragic story in his book.

Truman Capote, a renowned writer, becomes fascinated with the brutal murder of the Clutter family in Kansas after reading a newspaper article. He and his assistant, Nelle Harper Lee, travel to Kansas to research the story, using Truman's celebrity status and other means to gain access to key individuals, including the police investigator and the suspects, Dick Hickcock and Perry Smith. As Truman delves deeper into the story, he becomes emotionally attached to Perry and decides to write a non-fiction novel about the case, believing it can revolutionize writing.
