Michael J. Burg is a multifaceted individual, exceling in various creative realms. As a film, television, and stage actor, he has been a long-time member of the prestigious Actors Studio. Born in Rock Port, Missouri, he made the move to New York City at the tender age of 19.
After graduating from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Burg pursued private acting studies with renowned actress Estelle Parsons for several years. His professional journey began in high school, where he worked as a commercial radio announcer for local FM station KTRX. He soon expanded his reach to regional markets, collaborating with AM and FM stations KKJO and KSFT, which broadcast to Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas.
Throughout his illustrious career, Burg has had the privilege of working with some of the most esteemed directors in the industry, including Martin Scorsese, Ang Lee, Spike Lee, Neil Jordan, Lasse Hallstrom, Bennett Miller, Niels Arden Oplev, Morgan Spurlock, Mary Harron, and Amy Poehler.
Burg has portrayed Truman Capote on multiple occasions, most notably opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt in The Audrey Hepburn Story. In a peculiar coincidence, he also appeared in Capote opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman, playing Tennessee Williams, a distant cousin of Truman Capote's. Although his scenes as Capote were ultimately cut from The Hoax, he reprised the role in the ABC series Life on Mars.
In addition to his acting pursuits, Burg is also an active independent film producer. He has served as an executive producer for the 2011 feature film Turbine and the 2017 feature film The Eyes.
Recent credits include the feature film Love is Strange, opposite Alfred Molina and John Lithgow, as well as appearances on Comedy Central's Broad City, Gotham, The Night Of, Vinyl, and Orange is the New Black. His performance in the film Awsome_FCK received widespread critical acclaim at the Toronto Film Festival, with reviewers praising his "haunting, near perfect performance".
When not in the spotlight, Burg manages his family's 6th-generation farmland in Atchison County, Missouri, and resides in New York City.
