A retired Boston cop, Pally LaMarr, is sent away by his wife Charlotte after his heart problems force him to leave his job. He's feeling down, but his half-brother Ray has a plan to cheer him up: buying a race horse. Ray knows the horse is a champion, but it's cheap because of a misdiagnosis. However, their plans are ruined when a local mob boss steals the horse to pay off a jockey's gambling debt. Pally and Ray must now work together to get the horse back, help the jockey, and win some money, all while Pally navigates his feelings for Charlotte.
