Two veterans, scarred by war, embark on a poignant quest to revive their sense of purpose and rekindle love in the heart of America.

In 1954, two war veterans, photographer Sonny Burns and athlete Gunner Casselman, form an unlikely friendship on a train to Indianapolis. Sonny, a shy and introverted individual, is taken under Gunner's wing, and the two become inseparable. As they navigate their lives, Sonny introduces Gunner to the world of photography, but their friendship is put to the test when Gunner falls for a beautiful Arts student, Marty Pilcher, who lives and studies in New York.
