Hamlet background

Hamlet

Hamlet's quest for justice is complicated by his moral dilemma, as he weighs the need for revenge against his uncle, who murdered his father and seized the throne, against the moral implications of taking a life.

In medieval Denmark, King Hamlet's brother Claudius poisons him and seizes the throne, marrying the widowed Queen. Hamlet, grief-stricken and angry, is visited by his father's ghost, who reveals his murder. Seeking revenge, Hamlet stages a play to torment Claudius, but mistakenly kills Polonius, a counselor, thinking he's the king.
