Johnny Kapahala, a talented snowboarding champion from Vermont, returns to Oahu, Hawaii for his grandfather's wedding and to ride the famous Kauai waves. He meets his new family, including his step-grandmother's 12-year-old son Chris, who resents the marriage and wants to join a mountain-boarding crew led by a teenage bully.
