In 1947, best friends Gifford and Nolan form a swing band at their California high school, The Knights of Swing, with the goal of winning the California Battle of the Bands. With the help of their teacher, Herb Miller, and a talented vocal trio, the 3B's, they make progress, but face obstacles and racial tensions when a parent, Melba Barlutski, tries to sabotage them. Despite the challenges, the band perseveres, and their dreams seem within reach until a surprise twist threatens to crush their hopes.
