During World War II, the Nazi occupation of Leningrad ravages the Soviet city, forcing a lone foreign journalist, Kate Davies, to fight for survival amidst the treacherous environment.

As Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union in 1941, Leningrad fell under siege. Among the evacuating foreign journalists, Kate Davies was left behind, presumed dead. But she had actually survived and found herself alone in the city, where she was aided by Nina Tsvetnova, a young and idealistic police officer. Together, they fought for their own survival and the survival of the city's inhabitants.
