Lumière and Company background

Lumière and Company

The invention of the Cinematographe by the Lumière brothers sparked a global filmmaking movement, with 40 early pioneers creating short films from diverse locations around the world.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Cinématographe, forty international directors created short films using the original camera patented by Louis and Auguste Lumière. The films, under 52 seconds long, were made without synchronized sound and were shot in no more than three takes.
