New Waterford Girl

In the 1970s, a 15-year-old outcast named Agnes Marie "Mooney" Pottie yearns to escape her mundane life in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. She's disenchanted with her family and the town's conservative values, particularly her Catholic upbringing. When Mooney wins a scholarship to a New York art school, she's thrilled, but her parents refuse to let her go. Determined to break free, Mooney concocts a plan to escape. Meanwhile, a burst of New York City culture arrives in New Waterford when Lou Benzoa and her mother temporarily move in next door, fleeing the Bronx. Lou befriends Mooney and earns a reputation as the "female Equalizer," using her unique powers to right wrongs and bring justice to those who deserve it.
