On a Mediterranean island, the traditional Nativity scene is threatened when the child who played Baby Jesus has grown up. With no new births on the island in years, a replacement is needed. The mayor seeks to "borrow" a child from the Tunisian community, but tensions between Italians and Tunisians run deep. Bilal, an Italian convert to Islam and leader of the Tunisian community, and Suor Marta, a nun who respects Catholic tradition, join forces to find a solution.
