Oba: The Last Samurai background

Oba: The Last Samurai

As the last remnants of Japanese forces on an occupied island hold out against Allied troops, they refuse to yield, even as the Emperor's surrender becomes a reality.

Captain Oba Sakae, the highest-ranking Japanese officer, leads a group of 46 soldiers and over 200 civilians in a guerrilla war against American forces on Saipan after the Battle of Saipan. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, Oba and his followers evade capture for over 512 days, conducting hit-and-run raids on US bases and supplies.
