One Life background

One Life

The extraordinary true story of Nicholas Winton, a British humanitarian, unfolds as he bravely organizes the rescue of hundreds of children from Nazi-occupied territories on the eve of World War II.

Sir Nicholas 'Nicky' Winton, a young London broker, rescued 669 predominantly Jewish children from the Nazis in the months leading up to World War II. He visited Prague in December 1938 and found families living in desperate conditions, under threat of Nazi invasion. With time running out, Nicky and his team worked to rescue as many children as possible before borders closed.
