Confederate Captain Alan Westcott, disguised as a horse supplier, is tasked with infiltrating Union lines to organize a raid on Lawrence, Kansas' arsenal with William Quantrill. Westcott falls in love with Sue Walters and must balance his mission with his growing feelings. As his activities raise suspicions, he works with Quantrill's raiders to attack Lawrence, but learns the arsenal is being relocated. He calls off the attack, only for Quantrill to betray him and lead a brutal rampage through Lawrence.
