Fletcher Munson, a lackluster employee, is unexpectedly promoted to write speeches for the self-help organization Eventualism after a colleague's death. As he becomes more distant from his wife, he discovers she's having an affair with his doppelganger, a dentist. Meanwhile, a psychotic exterminator, Elmo Oxygen, is seducing lonely wives and taking photos of his genitals, and a dentist becomes obsessed with a new patient.
