Newspaper reporter Rebecca Chandler is sent to small-town Hamden to write a feel-good story about the elusive Secret Santa, who is said to spread Christmas cheer all year round. However, her trip is marred by bad luck, including a broken-down car and a lack of internet. Despite her efforts, she's unable to uncover the Secret Santa's identity, leading her to suspect a wealthy philanthropist, Mr. John Martin Carter. As she gets to know Carter, she discovers he's a charming widower, but he denies being the Secret Santa. As the holiday season progresses, Rebecca faces setbacks and red herrings, leaving her feeling defeated and ready to give up.
