In a bustling city, a young Jewish woman sets out to build a life filled with love, joy, and a sense of belonging despite the challenges she faces.

Sheila Levine, a Jewish-American princess from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, moves to New York City with her parents and becomes roommates with a nightlife enthusiast. After being persuaded to visit a nightclub, Sheila meets Dr. Sam Stoneman, who seems interested in her roommate. Sheila returns to Harrisburg, only to come back and try to win Sam's heart, but discovers he's engaged to her former roommate. Despite this, Sheila rises through the ranks at her job as an "office-singer/typist" for a record company.
