A group of resourceful students in an upstate New York school seize a snowplow to keep their school closed due to extreme weather.

In a surprise snowfall, a small town in upstate New York is shut down, leading to a chaotic "snow day" as a group of elementary school kids, led by Natalie, try to prevent the schools from reopening by stealing a snowplow. Meanwhile, Natalie's brother Hal attempts to woo the most popular girl in school, Claire, while their father, a TV meteorologist, competes with a rival for weather coverage of the event.
