Two families, the Peyser and Tobias, are about to become one as their children, Melissa and Mark, prepare to get married. Jerry Peyser, a risk-averse podiatrist, is marrying Mark, whose father Steve is a CIA agent working undercover as a photocopy machine salesman. Steve's work is always taking over his life, causing him to miss family events. When Jerry meets Steve, he becomes entangled in Steve's current mission to sell a 20-year-old runaway to a French arms dealer, while the FBI is searching for Steve, believing him to be a rogue agent. The tension between Jerry and Steve's differing values and the danger of Steve's work threaten to ruin the wedding and the lives of the families involved.
