A French doctor is stationed at a Polish convent where a series of unexplained pregnancies is taking place among the nuns.

In the frigid winter of 1945, a young French Red Cross intern named Mathilde Beaulieu is sent to Poland to locate, treat, and repatriate French survivors of German concentration camps. Her world is turned upside down when a Polish nun arrives at the hospital, speaking broken French and pleading with Mathilde to visit her convent. What Mathilde uncovers at the convent will challenge everything she thought she knew about faith, humanity, and the devastating effects of war.
